while we're on the topic of costumes, i got suckered into dressing as the joker because my lil nephew is going to be batman and my lady is going to be a smoking hot batgirl, go with a mask that looks like the classic cartoon characters face, or stick with makeup, your thoughts all?

I'd stick with the classic mask, as everyone and their sister is going to use makeup to try and pull off the Heath Ledger look.

And op, the silver looks better, a little more recognizable and stands apart from the run-of-the-mill monster masks.

If the silver one is the one I think it is, they are really cheap and flimsy like most Halloween masks.

I'd go for the other one just because it'd probably look better.
